Tribute

“When you look into your mother’s eyes, you know that is the purest love you can find on this earth”-Mitch Albom

Margaret (Aikin) Barker, age 78, of Hagansport Tx, passed peacefully at her home on the evening of February 15, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.

Margaret was born to James Walter and Mozelle (Walker) Aikin on July 26, 1943 in Needmore, Tx. She married Jimmy Dan Barker on August 11, 1961.

Margaret was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was truly The Wife of Noble Character mentioned in Proverbs 31:10-31, loving nothing so much as her Savior and her family. A talented seamstress, cook, decorator, and gardener; her home was always a welcoming place made more so by her warmth and laughter. A mother of two children, she was a surrogate mom to countless others over the years. Born to a large family, her nieces and nephews were as dear to her as her own children. She reveled in their successes and balmed their disappointments. Her yard was the hang out for all the local kids, and she relished every minute of it.

Together with her husband Jimmy Dan, they created a life together that is an example for all marriages. One built on love, trust, respect, and equality. Their joys and sadness served only to make them closer.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jimmy Dan Barker, and two children, Tammy Hollis and David, and Rusty Barker and Donya.  She is survived by her grandchildren, Blake Barker (Erica), Collin Hollis (Cortney), Christopher Barker, Colten Hollis (Lauren), Jonathan Barker (Shala), Dustin Ebarb, Rylie Harville, Harlie Robertson, and David Cervantez.  She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Mikah Barker, Ashton Hollis, Darcie Barker, Colby Barker, Daniel Barker, Chevie Barker, Marlee Cervantez, Brixton Barker, and Tate Harville.

She is survived by her brothers, Wayne Aikin (Polly), Steve Aikin (Kim), George (Charlotte) Aikin, and Jimmy (Michele) Aikin, and her sister, Kay (Paul) Newby, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J.W. and Mozelle Aikin, granddaughter, Kassie Cervantez, her sister, Christine Carr, and her brother Fred Aikin.
